FAQs
What is your shooting style described in 3 words?
Natural, candid, timeless. I’m here to capture the beauty of the day, and the love between you and your partner. I will always be there, but not in your face. More like off on the sidelines; making sure I capture everything without getting in the way. I like to watch the day unfold naturally, from start to finish, creating a visual story that will last a lifetime. I’m quite small and ninja like, so it’s easy for me to squeeze into places where you might not even notice me. I shoot natural light whenever possible; bringing flash in for party/after dark pictures.
I studied documentary photography at Parsons School of Design in New York City. I love to observe and let the magic happen in front of me. That said, I can also make a picture and not just take a picture. When objects need to be arranged for a sweet still life marking important details, or when formal family portraits need to be directed to celebrate how far family and friends have come together to celebrate your wedding day; I will have a plan, communicate gently but effectively, and work extremely efficiently with your time.
What about your editing style?
Being a photo editor + art producer for over 20 years having worked with hundreds of photographers, I am in favor of a natural and clean look to finished images. What can I say— I’m a purist. What did the day actually look like? I want to recreate it so you can be reminded of the original colors, smells, and most importantly, feelings. No overly filtered images. No harsh photoshop tricks. Instead, lovely skin tones, soft shadows, and a true sense of the day at its best.
What if I only want candid photos, and no formal portraits?
This is absolutely your decision to make. Do you boo. However, I strongly suggest you consider carving away a little bit of time for just you and your partner, where you can be alone and enjoy each other on your day. There is so much going and so many people to chat with, that spending some time solo together is not just about the images that result, but also remembering that this day, this celebration, is about YOU.
What if we want to elope?
Sign me up. I’m local to Portland, Oregon but I’ve been to 42 countries (and not counting), lived on 2 continents, have multiple passports, and have worked a producer for 20 years where I’ve location scouted (in person + remotely), obtained permits, worked with government officials, scheduled shoots around natural disasters, and more. I got you. I’ve produced shoots all over the United States, including on tribal lands, as well as shoots in Mexico, the UK, Peru, Australia, Germany, India, and more. I have the rolodex of your dreams and my role as a producer is literally to make the impossible possible. On budget, on time, and having fun while at it. We’ll start with ideating on your ideal day, as a collaborative process. Once you’ve booked and contracts are signed, we’ll get a schedule in place and begin the prep.
What’s included in your base price?
All coverage includes me on site, both high and low res digital files professionally edited by me delivered on thumb drive (high res for printing, low res for social sharing) an online gallery via password protected link, and personal use + printing rights to all images delivered. Weddings are on a first come first served basis. Advance notice can be anywhere from 6-16 months. But if you’re planning on eloping (or rather, not planning), I’m more than game. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if your search is last minute. I’ve produced shoots in under 72 hours before. I don’t recommend this, but it can be done! I require a 50% deposit and signed agreement to reserve a date.
What are your rates?
Each and every wedding is unique, and therefore so is the pricing. It’s just simpler that way. Get in touch, share your plans, needs, and wishes, and I’ll put together a package that suits all three. But just to give you an idea, for short and small intimate weddings without any planning or prep needs, prices start at $500 for the first hour, and $350 per hour thereafter. If you are looking to elope and require my services as a producer to ideate, scout, obtain permits, recommend vendors, schedule the day including travel/meals/accommodation, packages start at $2000 for 4 hours shooting coverage. If I’m coming along on a weddingcation (check out Mari + Gerald’s weddingcation for reference), we’ll come up with a package that covers all the days + events + anything else you might need or want.
What about extra stuff?
A second shooter for large weddings, custom prints + albums, advanced retouching, a photo booth for guests, and more can all be arranged a la carte. I’ve got access to stellar print labs, funny or serious photo booths, killer retouchers, and more. I was a master color printer during a point in my career and I will act as quality control on all materials ensuring you don’t receive anything until I’ve inspected it.
How do I start the booking?
Let’s set up a call or coffee date where I can hear more about your plans (or lack thereof) and decide if we are a good match. Please fill out the contact form on my contact page and I’ll be in touch!
